The project has been taken up with IIT kharagpur. Sahayika is a system that aims at supplementing the knowledge requirement of the school students,based on the prescribed curriculum. The objective of the software is to provide school children with a knowledge network through which they can perform concept based as well as topic based navigation of contents and to provide the knowledge workers with the facility of building the structure for a particular subject.
It has the interface to create a new ontology for subject belonging to school curriculum. It provides ontology builder, ontology browser and ontology visualization through navigation. Sahayika supports English and Bengali. It provides automatic indexing and manual document indexing to attach actual contents to any entity belonging to the ontology. Indexing tools enabling the system to be used as a course organizer or a self learning system to a student. It is being test deployed in 8 secondary schools in West Bengal.
2. Development of ICT based resources for rural school education
The objective of the project is to train the teachers of rural schools to develop multi-media content using an open source multimedia authoring tool and to design Virtual Physics Lab (VPL) experiments for the rural school children, which do not have access to physics laboratory infrastructure in their schools. Large number of teachers have been trained by IIIT, Hyderabad through this project.
3. Multi-modal Participatory Content Repository for the Education of Rural Children
The project has been undertaken jointly with IIT, Mumbai and IIT, Kharagpur for the development of a Multi Modal Participatory Content Repository for the education of rural children.
It has a browser based interface to access online educational content and a searchable, sharable repository of courseware from different sources in various languages. It provides multiple language support. The emphasis is on providing the schools with a content repository of courseware in science, mathematics and social studies. The system includes simple and vernacular search interfaces.
4. ICT for improving quality of teaching in Government schools in Karnataka
A project has been undertaken with Government of Karnataka under their Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to deploy ICT in classroom teaching in about 15 rural schools in Karnataka and to evaluate the effectiveness of the same for improving the quality of class-room teaching. This feedback will be used for taking a decision for ICT deployment on a larger scale in the Government schools in Karnataka. This project covers the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics across the middle classes i.e. class 4 to class 7.
5. Life skill training for the children of Nomadic Tribes
An ICT based education initiative to motivate nomadic children to learn from their own living environment and to enable them to discover, interact, explore, participate and enquire. The project covers Medhangi Joshi Tribe of Maharashtra.
The instructors are in the four camps viz Ambernath, Magar Sanghvi, Umerga and Anserwada have been trained in effective use of media.
6. IT Education in Rural District utilizing district computer education centers.
This project has been taken in collaboration with DOEACC centre, Aizwal for "IT Education in Rural areas" of Mizoram utilizing district computer education centres. The current project has made use of five of the District Centres to develop IT awareness and their effective utilization at the grassroot level (school children and rural areas).
The District Level centres will be managed by respective Deputy Commissioner. The target group will be students of class VIII to XII enrolled. The training will be imparted during off-school hours. Every student will recieve 50 hours of computer education in such centre in a year clocking a minimum of 2 hours in a week.
The project has been taken up in collaboration with State Education Department, Mizoram to implement Digital classroom teaching in Government schools of Mizoram. The project is covering the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics across the middle school i.e. classes IV-VII using teacher centric software models. The thrust is, however on transaction of curriculum in the classroom through computers and the feedback from students and researchers.
The teachers of Mizoram schools have identified the subjects, topics and concepts class-wise, which will be effective for IT based teaching and supplement the knowledge of the teachers/students.
The interactive portal is for collating, organising and Circulating Contents generated in Schools in India through a Single Open Web Platform to give a boost to nationwide E-learning and E-education efforts. It has online Presence of 50,000+ students covering 10 States.

9. Design, Development and deployment of mobile and Internet based Math prep guide application. (Available at www.ganitmitra.in)
This project has been taken up in collaboration with C-DAC, Pune and Enable M, Mumbai. Math prep guide will enable students to understand and solve the difficult Math questions with simple strategies. It will enable cracking a tough discrete quantitative problem by using easy algebra and common sense probability reasoning.
A comprehensive chapter-wise manual on the wireless platform brought out by experts in the most scientific manner to take on the examination. Concepts in each chapter explained with visual and voice aid in an interactive and in depth mode along with related questions asked previously to make preparations more focussed. Development on 4 Platforms – SMS, WAP, Flash and JAVA.
10. Multi-modal participatory content tutoring system for the education of rural children.(Available at www.eshikshan.in)
The project has been taken up with IIT Kharagpur. The project is covering selected rural schools in Maharashtra and West Bengal respectively. The system includes an artificial intelligence based intelligent tutoring system. An intelligent tutoring system contains a control engine as a common teaching model and stores all the information of the students. It provides an interactive environment for the children to access the educational material at their own pace. It provides the platform to teachers to make teaching more effective and interesting. It has the facility to present the same courseware in different forms and delivery paths.Based on the performance of students the ITS system adopts different routes to teach the same concept.
11. Content Authoring Tool and Virtual Physics Lab
The project has been taken up with IIIT Hyderabad. It is a customized platform-independent vernacular open source multimedia authoring tool - SQUEAK for rural school teachers to create/update new/existing multimedia lessons. The platform independent, vernacular, open source software SQUEAK, to be released under GPL (General Public License).
12. Design, development and deployment of Internet based virtual laboratory for Life Science Experiments for higher secondary education. (Available at www.e-vigyanshala.in)
The project has been taken up in collaboration with C-DAC, Pune and Enable M, Mumbai. This project includes development of 40 Virtual Life Science Experiments with the help of learning packages and multimedia technology for simulating the virtual classroom environment. These virtual experiments will be made available on Cd-ROMs and MMC's for mobiles.
40 VLLS has been developed with the help of multimedia technology for simulating the virtual classroom environment. It provides onscreen instructions for navigations. It has comprehensive Dictionary / vocabulary specific to a specific VLLS. Developed for Desktop and MMC Platform as well.

14. Samvidha: Low cost Internet access and content personalization for rural schools.
The project has been taken up with IIT kharagpur. The system aims at providing offline Internet access at low cost to the schools and provides the users with relevant content in answer to their queries on subjects related to their curriculum. It has navigation interfaces in Bengali, Hindi and English and has a local repository built for reference. Information will be filtered to ensure that the user gets relevant information.
a. This project aims at examining innovative methods of providing low cost, offline, low bandwidth Internet access. It explores store and forward methods for asynchronous searches.
b. The technology is being tested for curriculum based offline internet access in selected schools at Bhalopahar, Galudihi, Purulia, whereas deployment is in progress at Bankura and Ashok Nager.
